Sam Il denotes the historical date of the independence movement of Korea which began throughtout the country on March 1, 1919. The 33 movements in the pattern stands for the patriots who planned the movement.

 

 

Black signifies

"Opposite to White, therefore, signifies the proficiency and maturity in Tae Kwon-Do. It also indicates the wearer's impreviousness to darkness and fear" - ITF page 373.
